What’s your guilty pleasure?
Whatever your answer may be, the one thing that holds true for all of us is when we start having to hide things, or feel guilty, chances are we probably shouldn’t be doing it in the first place.
If you are looking to move into this new season with a clear heart, clean hands, and an open mind, this word may be for you.
The one area of my spiritual life that I have explored recently is this concept of fasting. I am beginning to see that as God calls me higher, He also raises the bar and expects more from me in this relationship. Fasting is the practice of sacrificing something or someone for God, in order to cleanse one’s spirit to move beyond the veil and seek direct communication from God. (Click Here for scripture and more understanding into fasting)
Really, what it balls down to is giving up that guilty pleasure to show God that He means more than anything, and that HE COMES FIRST no matter what. Sometimes God will give you a specific area of cleansing, a charge of sorts, to see if you are willing to give up something as a sacrifice to Him. After all, He did make the ultimate sacrifice for us, that of His son Jesus Christ.
Some may say that perhaps giving up something like facebook may seem trivial or insignificant, but if that’s something that takes up a lot of your time, or if it’s something that causes you to independently gossip (yes this is possible) lol..then it definitely DOES count as an area to fast.
For some of us giving up our phones for a week would be torture, but God would read our hearts and recognize the sacrifice we made for Him and count that one too : )
The other aspect of fasting is that whatever you choose to give up, you then spend that time in prayer and meditation to get closer and hear from God. What is God about to do in your life? If you’re on the verge of a new season.. go ahead and “give it up”.. for the sake of having
a clear vision on Gods blessing.
My new attitude: “Yea, I give it up“.
My new prayer: God help me to give it up for You. Amen.
