Happiness and JOY

smiley.jpg“A happy heart makes the face cheerful, but heartache crushes the spirit.” (Proverbs 15:13) Did you ever think of how important it is to have a happy heart? If a happy heart makes the face cheerful, then when I see so many frowns or sad faces throughout the day, what does that tell me? According to this scripture, it tells me, their spirit‘s not right.

Now it starts to make sense. Because for those who may not be saved they don’t know Christ so they don’t know what true happiness and joy IS! They haven’t experienced it! So what is happiness? And what is Joy? Happiness is defined simply as “luck” or “well fortune”. But the Bible defines happiness as much more than that. It’s not based on luck.

Happiness in a Biblical sense as defined in the Hebrew is “to be at rest” or “blessed”. Matthew 11:28 says, “Come to me all you who are weary and burdened and I will give you rest.” WHO is happy? The Bible displays “happy” people as those who fear the Lord. “Blessed are all who fear the Lord, who walk in obedience to him.” (Psalm 128:1) Those who keep His law are happy, blessed. In fact, it is impossible to be in a relationship with God without obeying His laws. “We know that we have come to know Him if we keep His commands.” (1 John 2:3) And finally, those who trust in the Lord are “happy”. “Whoever gives heed to instruction prospers and blessed is he who trusts in the Lord.” (Proverbs 16:20)

JOY. How is Joy different from Happiness? Joy is the outcome of our relationship with God and also the source of our strength. “Do not grieve, for the joy of the Lord is your strength.” (Nehemiah 8:10b)

Joy is not emotion based. When our joy is in anyone or anything other than the Lord, it can be stolen because apart from God, it’s all temporal. But having joy in the Lord is not temporal. Happiness is a feeling based on emotions. We can be happy and in the next moment, not so happy. But true joy in the Lord is always.

So happiness may last for but a moment. It might come and go. But since joy comes from our Father, it does not fade away and is not temporal. And the joy of the Lord brings happiness. As I think of this, I think of how much those who don’t know Christ are really missing. A happy heart (and a joyful heart) can only come about through Christ. True joy and happiness comes from Christ being my Father, my personal Lord and Savior and my Strength. Because of this, my heart is truly happy, and because of that, my face is cheerful.

TO THE KING!!

What? A happy heart makes the face cheerful? So true.. but.. JOY… makes the rest of you join in!!! Loved it, sweetie! And keep allowing the Lord to place that Joy, that’s plain to see, in your everyday life!! Love you….

Wow…i learn something new everyday. I’ve never seen Proverbs 15:13 (or at least not to my knowledge). That verse is proof to me that mean spirited people can not possibly have the Holy Spirit living on the inside of them. Also, it brings to my mind people who often have a “scowl”. Those people will justify their look by saying things like, “God sees my heart and knows I have joy on the inside.” Prov 15:13 is a clear indicator that having JOY inside your heart reflects on the face. That’s not saying we as believers never have a down day, but it should be extremely difficult as a Christian to stay in a habitual place where the joy of Christ doesn’t SHINE THROUGH.
Praise God for your post Claire-bear!

Sometimes life gets a little rough, and we all need a bit of joy in our lives. We often talk about warnings that come from the Bible, how to live or not live our lives. However, sometimes we forget that the Bible tells us to enjoy life a little bit. God did not mean for us to be sad or serious all the time. He tells us to get out and have a little fun. Here are some “happy” Bible verses to add some sunshine brighteen up the day:
Psalm 27:6 – “Then my head will be exalted above the enemies who surround me; at his tabernacle will I sacrifice with shouts of joy; I will sing and make music to the LORD.”
Psalm 97:11-12 – “Light is shed upon the righteous and joy on the upright in heart. Rejoice in the LORD, you who are righteous, and praise his holy name.”
Psalm 118:24 – “This is the day the LORD has made; let us rejoice and be glad in it.”
Proverbs 15:13 – “A happy heart makes the face cheerful, but heartache crushes the spirit.”
Proverbs 15:23 – “A man finds joy in giving an apt reply – and how good is a timely word!”
Proverbs 17:22 – “A cheerful heart is good medicine, but a crushed spirit dries up the bones.”
Isaiah 35:10 – “And the ransomed of the LORD will return. They will enter Zion with singing; everlasting joy will crown their heads. Gladness and joy will overtake them, and sorrow and sighing will flee away.”

;-)Great Blog Baby Sis……The ONLY ?? I have is the part where you said ” A happy heart (and a joyful heart) can only come about through Christ. True joy and happiness comes from Christ being my Father, my personal Lord and Savior and my Strength.” I KNOW that is SOO SUPER TRUE 4 YOU my Sister( I TRULY SEE UR FRUIT); however, I wonder SOMETIMES how ppl CALL themselves “CHRISTIANS”…..WALK the WALK & TALK the TALK; HOWEVER, DO/ACT out in WAYS(A lot in what THEY THINK is PRIVATE But God KNOWS ALL) that are TRULY NOT the IMAGE of God Genesis 1 “So God created man in his own image, in the image of God he created him; male and female he created them” It just PUZZLES ME when I SEE SO CALL BELEIVERS acting in a manner that TRULY DOESN’T SHOW God’s JOY/HAPPINESS SHINING THRU THEM(Not JUDGING just saying the FRUIT I SEE on SOME TREES) Makes ME say HMMMMMMMMMMMMMMM!!! Sometimes(SMH) #JustmythoughtsTHRUChristinMYheart

GREAT POST……Love you Baby Sis & Miss UUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUU
