New Year, New Life

You know, this time of year tends to be the most hectic. Thanksgiving, followed by Christmas, then New Year’s. Everyone is saying, “Happy Holidays!” or “Merry Christmas!” or “I want, I want…” I hope that everyone had a Christ-filled CHRISTmas this year but now our focus has been turned to the New Year. I personally noticed this at midnight Christmas DAY, when even the Radio Stations stopped playing Christmas music.

I was looking for something to tie in the whole “New Year’s” theme and I found an anonymous quote: “No one can go back and start a new beginning, but anyone can start today and make a new ending.”

The conclusion is, we don’t ever “start over” instead, we start right where we are & make new endings. As a believer in Christ, it’s not about saying, “I will do this” and “I won’t do that” and then dropping the idea or falling short. It is more about asking the Lord to help each day, to fall deeper and deeper in love with Him. This way our focus will be set on the things of heaven and not on all this earthly stuff.

Occassionally, I’ll make an infamous New Year’s resolution. Three weeks later, it’s beginning to crumble. If I’m good, I’ll keep to it for two months. But what’s different? Nothing, really. But this year I am determined to make Him my all and all. He wants our undivided attention in spite of the distractions and temptations that lie waiting around the corner. He wants to be & HAS to be the main focus.

Did we end this year with the resolutions we started with? Do you want a NEW ending to this year? Because it’s not over yet. And as the author of this quote said, it’s not about starting all over, it’s about starting where you are and making a new ending. You don’t have to wait for the year to end to start a new life.

If you’re not saved, and you don’t know Christ as YOUR personal Lord and Savior; if you haven’t accepted Him into your heart to lead you and guide you; if you haven’t made a committment to Him by repenting and accepting His forgiveness; please know that this year’s end can be the BEST beginning of your life! You can be filled with a hope and a peace and an unconditional love. To know the ending of your life is just a bonus. Why should every year be the same? Unchanging? The same as the one before?

If you are saved, yet you feel like you’re in a stand-still, you’re not really going anywhere, then now is the time to rekindle the love with Him. He’s calling us to Himself and if we stop and listen, we will hear His still small voice.

The real “ending” in our life is when Jesus says to us, “Well done, my good and faithful servant.” That statement will be for those who took the time to get to know Him, love Him, grow close to Him and obediently follow Him.

The New Year may not start until midnight Friday, but a New Life can start right now by praying a prayer of acceptance. By simply confessing and repenting of our sins, trusting and believing that we’re forgiven and God has forgotten, then by living according to His word, a New Life can begin and the love we once had that may have grown dim can begin again.

To The KING!!
