Over the next few weeks, I’m going to attempt to bring you along the journey I had with over 400 other women in a remote town of Maryland for this year’s  “You’re Amazing” Women’s Advance/Retreat. God’s presence was so overwhelming in that atmosphere that you couldn’t help but leave there refreshed, renewed, and empowered to take your walk to another level. We were there for three days enjoying speakers, an anointed praise team, social activities, and simply being away from the mundane routine that so many of us fall into on a daily basis.

The first day I remember telling God that I would not leave here the same. I would not allow this to be all for show nor would I allow my money to be spent in vain. No matter what anyone else’s agenda was, I was there to have an encounter with God to help me stay on track and advance in the things of God. Notice that I said, I TOLD God. There was no need to ask Him at that point. The sole reason for me being there was because I heard from Him. I’m not trying to spook anyone out but everything else about my circumstances said “DON’T GO.” I’m so happy to have a sensitive ear for the voice of God and the obedience to move (sometimes). Still working on that!

I was sitting here trying to summarize all that I encountered. It’s impossible to do in one blog post. During the advance, I remember saying, “God I wish I could bottle this up and sell it.” Just now, I heard as clear as day, “You can! You be the bottle and your walk will sell itself.” STUCK. I heard that God! It’s just sooo much to share, but when I looked at my notes from the first day it became clear as day …“Consistency.”

“Ability is inadequate if your consistency is not in place.” That came from a portion of my notes and although it’s just one line, it could easily be turned into a book. Don’t worry, I’m going to make it simple. We invest all this money to increase our abilities, our skill sets, our credibility in the fields that we choose… but if we aren’t consistent and persistent with utilizing those abilities, then they don’t add any value.

It’s the same with our walk with Christ. You can invest all that time in sitting in church every Sunday and maybe even attending bible study on a regular basis. You purchase the DVDs and CDs every now and then too, but when you are alone what takes up your time? For some of you, who takes up your time? Why not sleep in late on Sunday if you not going to revisit your notes during the week. Why pay for CDs if you going to listen to 95.5 everyday heading to work? I’m all for balance. Too much of anything is detrimental, but don’t let your time go to waste and never pour into yourself something that will grow you spiritually.

Think of it like this, out of your friends, who do you reach out to most? And why do you rely on them the way you do? There may be a plethora of reasons but I can guarantee you that at the root of all of them it’s because you invested enough time with them consistently throughout the years to trust that they have your back and will help you out when you need them. Many of us can’t trust God that way because we haven’t consistently invested enough time with Him to know how much He will do for us. You can’t put a demand on someone you don’t have a relationship with.

So if I could bottle up the first night, it would be filled with words of encouragement to be consistent with your time in your Word. You make time for everything and everyone else… make time for Him. If you’re like me, seeking purpose and desiring a new path, the first step is listening for His voice and studying His Word. Set a weekly goal for how many hours you will invest with Him and stick to it. I’m on it this week, so who’s with me??
