But the LORD said to Samuel, “Do not consider his appearance or his height, for I have rejected him. The LORD does not look at the things people look at. People look at the outward appearance, but the LORD looks at the heart.” 1 Samuel 16:7
This scripture rings so true. God is not compelled by all the same things that we as people are concerned with. But it also rings true in my spirit to make me digress a tad to type a quick blog today. The qualities we see in one another…our perceptions, are often times based on how people appear on the outside. I’m not even solely talking about the physical look, but I have found that many people are wearing masks; masks to appear to whomever, that they are in fact one way when deep down, they are someone completely different. Like the scripture above says, we look at the outside while God is looking at the heart. Every now and then, we are able to see a glimpse of the real them and it’s contrary to who they want us to believe they are. Once they are exposed, it’s a WRAP! They can’t ever go back to the pretend them in our minds b/c we’ve seen the reality.
Well, the same applies to us as believers. Everyday is an opportunity for us to allow THE REAL US to shine thru. The above scripture is a fact, BUT people CAN see God in you…how you choose to live your life; how you decide to speak; how you handle challenging situations; how you act when everyone around you is acting a fool…the REAL YOU speaks volumes to how AWESOME God truly is.
People are watching you believer. You may not like the role of being looked up to or being looked at, but GET OVER IT b/c if you call yourself a CHRISTIAN, you have taken God’s name as your own. He set the bar higher than we can ever reach, but each day is a new chance to STRIVE HARD to bring others into a knowledge of Him. Don’t blow it. Live life to PLEASE God, but also take your influence on others seriously, realize they are watching you also, and represent BOLDLY for Christ!!
