Just when I thought I’d be blogging about my feelings on the Bruce “Caitlyn” Jenner situation today, God showed me the story of Kelly Mayhew, and how much it parallels Jenner’s story.
On Saturday, Mayhew and her mom took a trip from Suitland, Maryland to Queens, NY on Saturday so that she could receive butt injections from an unlicensed practictioner. While on the table being injected, she began to experience difficulty breathing. Shortly after, her mother called the ambulance as her daughter got worse & went unconscious. She died at the hospital hours later.
Although there has been outrage at these fake Doctors who are doing dangerous cosmetic procedures on people, I have noticed a serious negative slant towards Mayhew in people’s comments and status posts on social media. “Why the hell was she getting her butt pumped when she already had a big booty?” “Black women are so focused on the size of their butts instead of the quality of their life.” “This chick was so stupid. Hire a real plastic surgeon or don’t do it.” And so on. On the flip side, Caitlyn Jenner is “brave” and a “hero” to step out there to become the person he felt he was always supposed to be.
The general consensus out here is that both of them should be ashamed of themselves for not being HAPPY with how GOD made them. Both of these situations have shown me just how judgmental folks can be and how we can be such hypocrites. I’d venture to say, the average person out here is not doing surgery to alter their gender or even doing butt injections. But, how many of us are walking around in our AU-NATURAL GLORY… not altering ANYTHING about ourselves? How many of us are TRULY happy with HOW GOD MADE US to a point where we will stop altering our look by wearing make-up, coloring/styling our hair, men getting haircuts/shape-ups, wearing waist shapers & spanks, and etc.
Yes, you have to be careful about who you allow to do anything to your body, but mishaps happen. Even people who pay top dollar for certified Surgeons, still contend with the risk of dying on the operating table. That is a fact. But to go as deep to say that people aren’t happy with how God made them b/c they choose to make external changes, is a stretch to me. On an episode of a webseries I’m part of, we actually discussed this topic. Feel free to check out the perspective of some ladies who are Christians as well. Agree or disagree, it’s definitely a hot topic:
As far as gender reassignment surgery, I can not claim to understand what it feels like to spend my whole life feeling trapped in the wrong body. Yes it sounds extreme. But hormonal, chemical, and mental imbalances are REAL. I’m not saying I agree with it…I’m saying I can’t relate so I won’t pretend to have an answer; nor will I have the audacity to discount someone else’s experience. Perhaps it’s sinful… but last time I checked, I’m a sinner… no different than Bruce/Caitlyn and SO ARE YOU!!! Worry about YOU and getting yourself right with the Lord and concentrate on LOVING people to Christ instead of bullying them with hateful words and attacking them based on something you can’t relate to.
Everyone really needs to GET THEIR LIFE right now… IN JESUS’ NAME!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
Matthew 7:3-5 — “Why do you look at the speck of sawdust in your brother’s eye and pay no attention to the plank in your own eye? How can you say to your brother, ‘Let me take the speck out of your eye,’ when all the time there is a plank in your own eye? You hypocrite, first take the plank out of your own eye, and then you will see clearly to remove the speck from your brother’s eye.“
